We are delighted to be working in partnership with South Staff's College & South Staffordshire University, enabling students to train in a professional working environment with our wonderful staff team here at The Lichfield Garrick. These partnerships mean that The Lichfield Garrick Theatre is fast becoming a venue leading the way as a ‘Learning Theatre' offering a resource for training, mentorship and artistic excellence. The academic teams work alongside the theatre teams enabling the student's to benefit from have a truly unique learning experience.


For Teachers
Our new programme aims to ignite teachers imaginations and inspire new ways of working in the hope will have maximum impact on your student's learning.

We have a whole theatre-full of resources at your disposal, including our skilled and talented staff. As a Learning Theatre, we actively encourage schools to explore the theatre-making process with us and share in the work that is normally kept behind closed doors. Workshops can be tailored to meet your needs, even to a particular exam board's requirements, and can be anything from an introduction to all areas of the theatre, to detailed work on devising, designing, marketing and finance or even how our chef's chose and create their menus. Our workshops can involve working with our director, technicians, the Learning team, actors or staff from other departments such at Business, Front of House, Finance, Marketing, IT and Catering.
 

IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

An exciting range of new workshops for teachers and students

We are delighted to introduce a new programme of drama workshops, career days and Inset training for local schools and teachers, delivered here at The Lichfield Garrick or within your schools. Our workshops will explore key themes and performance techniques specific to individual productions and the curriculum. Physical Theatre Workshop
This is a very physical workshop for students offering them a new and exciting approach to devising. We will be exploring lift techniques and strategies for devising, creating character and structuring drama. There are exercises on the play and replay of daily life as used by contemporary companies such as Frantic Assembly and more traditional chorus based physical theatre used by Steven Berkoff. We will also explore how to approach text in a very physical way and how music can influence the development of a piece.

 

Stanislavski Workshop
These workshops provide a step by step approach to understanding and using the Stanislavski system. We introduce the students to exercises that would help them to understand how Stanislavski works both in theory and in practice.

The workshop examines the various elements of the Stanislavski system such as Objectives and Actions and how to use them in a practice. The workshop will also focus on the truth and creating the sub text within a piece of work.

Our aim is to give students a rounded understanding and experience of Stanislavski technique that will benefit them in Acting and understanding of how theatre works. The workshops help the student to understand how to effectively create and develop a character through topics which include: The Objective, The Super Objective, Events, Imagination, Actioning and Uniting, Inner Motive Forces and Tempo Rhythm.

A second workshop is also available that examines the developing rehearsal process, the Method of Physical Action and Active Analysis allowing the students to try out the tools they have learnt in the first workshop.

The workshop gives them an insight into how to create, explore and develop a character with references to the development of acting technique, theatre and how professional actors use the techniques today.

Text - Unlocking The Secrets Workshop
These workshops help students to examine and analyze a play and text and how to make discoveries within the text, to help them to create a character, find direction and themes within the writing. The workshop is very practical and will give the students many new exercises to help them to understand and play with text.

Brecht Workshop
The Brecht workshop aims to give student a clearer insight into Brecht and his techniques. The workshop is a very practice workshop offering students many exercises to help them gain a greater understanding in the process of staging a piece of Brechtian Theatre. We will be exploring gestus and alienation through improvisation and then work on a text (of your choice) using various techniques to create a piece of Brechtian Theatre.

Exploring Shakespeare Workshop
These workshops help students to examine and analyze a play and text and how to make discoveries within the text, to help them to create a character, find direction and themes within the writing. The workshop is very practical and will give the students many new exercises to help them to understand and play with text.


The aim of these workshops is to offer students a very practical active approach to working with a play text and enhancing student's confidence with Shakespeare's texts, and their understanding of the plays. The workshops offer a clear insight into Shakespeare's stories, characters, language and action in active ways. We are very happy to work on a text of your choice and to tailor the workshop to the requirements and ability of your group.

 

Gifted and Talented Workshop
Our Gifted and Talented workshops are designed to stretch students giving them the skills to achieve the highest grades at GCSE. The workshop can be devising based, experimental, physical or naturalistic.
