Sammy Fain's compulsive tuneful music for Calamity Jane ranges from the exhilarating Deadwood Stage and Windy City to the evocative Black Hills of Dakota and the intimate Secret Love. Both the flavour of early frontier life and the vivacity of the show's characters are there in Paul Francis Webster's inventive lyrics. With its feisty, buckskin-clad heroine and its lively, vivid Wild West background, it is a classic musical not to be missed presented here by Lichfield Operatic Society.
