Bizet's steamy tale of a tautly woven friendship, loyalty and forbidden love
Main Auditorium
Showing on Saturday 24 Apr 2010
Sung in English
Swansea City Opera production of Bizet's Grand Opera The Pearl Fishers is a visual and dramatic spectacle with vibrant costumes and a torrent of passion, loyalty and tension.
A fishing village in ancient Ceylon is the setting for Bizet's steamy tale of a tautly woven friendship, loyalty and forbidden love.
The Pearl Fishers is an exquisite combination of emotional turmoil and pervasive sadness, containing a ceaselessly seductive score with one of the most famous and beautiful operatic duets ever written for tenor and baritone - Au Fond du Temple Saint. It is beautifully performed by some of the finest opera singers and orchestral players in the country.
Swansea City Opera are delighted to announce that they are offering audiences a free pre-show talk with the director about the production from 6.30pm. This is a rare opportunity for audience members to meet those behind the scenes and put their questions to them and it is hoped the talk will create greater appreciation and understanding of the opera. For more information and to book your FREE ticket to the pre-show talk, call the Box Office on 01543 412121. There will also be a FREE post-show Q&A with the cast and director after the performance - this needs no ticket, so simply stay in your seat to enjoy this behind-the-scenes experience.
