Aladdin ‘takes off’ in spectacular style!

The mystical and magical tale of Aladdin will be fabulously brought to life in the Lichfield Garrick’s own ‘high flying’ family pantomime this festive season.

The cast arrived at the theatre to meet the Lichfield Garrick staff, creative team and each other before taking to the stage for photos and press interviews. Passers-by were treated to a first glimpse of the cast in their wonderful costumes as they posed for photographers with the pantomime sponsors, the Chambers Group.

Tim Ford, Lichfield Garrick’s Artistic Director, said: “We had an incredible day and it was wonderful to welcome the cast, the creative team and our sponsors, Chambers Group, to the Lichfield Garrick for the launch. Aladdin will bring together some of the very best pantomime performers from across the country including top west end dancers and of course the wonderful Cat Sandion. We are also very happy to welcome back the extremely funny Sam Rabone and Ben Thornton who I’m sure will cause even more mischief this year.”

Aladdin is the second pantomime at the Lichfield Garrick to be co-produced with Evolution Pantomimes following on from last year’s critically acclaimed Sleeping Beauty. The theatre has previously announced its first wave of stars: CBeebies Cat Sandion, the returning comedy duo; Sutton Coldfield based dame, Sam Rabone, and television presenter and star of the BAFTA Award Winning show People Just Do Nothing, Ben Thornton.

The trio are joined by children’s author Ian Billings as the Emperor of China, Lichfield based actress Lizzie Wofford as the Spirit of the Ring, pantomime favourite James Mitchell as PC Pongo, stage and musical theatre actor Cameron Johnson as the Genie of the Lamp, Laine Theatre Arts Graduate Adrian Bevan as Aladdin, and Sutton Coldfield’s finest baddie Robin Johnson as Abanazar (booooooooo!).

Karen Foster, the Lichfield Garrick’s Executive Director further commented: “We’re delighted to have added an extra week to our spectacular Christmas panto.  After last year’s sell out shows, we wanted to give more people the opportunity to see our wonderful family-friendly, all singing, all dancing extravaganza. During December we welcome more than 30,000 people into the theatre and we love having so many of our local community enjoying their Christmas treat in their local theatre. The cast is amazing this year and we are so excited to welcome them to the Lichfield Garrick.”

Aladdin is written by Paul Hendy (Evolution Pantomimes), directed by Tim Ford (Lichfield Garrick’s Artistic Director) and produced by the same team behind last year’s Box Office smash hit, Sleeping Beauty. Aladdin promises to be spectacular, top-quality entertainment with the emphasis on strong casting, high production values and a genuinely funny script.

Aladdin runs at the Lichfield Garrick from Thursday 30 November 2017 to Saturday 6 January 2018, with a variety of schools, matinee and evening performances. Tickets are selling fast and a number of performances have already sold out. Prices start from £14 for children and £23.50 for adults, and can be booked online or by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121.
