This event will go off sale with Lichfield Garrick Box Office at 4pm on Friday 13th July. Tickets can be purchased from the venue on the door, subject to availability. 

This evening sees a welcome return to the Festival by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, with a programme featuring two great Russian works, written a mere 45 years apart but separated by the most tumultuous period in the country’s history. Artist in residence Danny Driver is the soloist for Rachmaninov’s enduringly beloved Piano Concerto no. 2; Shostakovich’s bright and playful Symphony no. 9 was premiered in 1945, the same year the quintessentially British Brief Encounter cemented Rachmaninov’s Concerto into our own popular consciousness.

Thomas Hyde’s new work - Les at Leisure - brings a further British twist to the programme: a comic overture written in tribute to the legendary comedian Les Dawson, 25 years on from his death in 1993.

This concert will be recorded for subsequent broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

This event is presented by Lichfield Festival, with Lichfield Garrick acting as a ticket agent.
