We are offering masterclasses ahead of the start of the Your Community Musical project, where participants can take creative classes in playwriting, directing, set & costume design, and audience engagement to give those interested in taking part a taste of what the development of a musical will entail.
Set and Costume Design - Monday 28th June
Get a whistle-stop tour on Set and Costume Design as we cover the basics of set and costume design, looking at concept consistency, differentiating characters, and telling stories through visuals as well as giving our some information on our opportunity to work with a professional designer in our Community Musical Design Group!
Directing and Facilitating Actors - Tuesday 29th June
Get to grips with an active style of directing, and learn some of the basics of facilitating in this session run by our Associate Director, Jonny McClean. Learn how to guide performers through a scene or a session, and learn about some of the tricks to help performers bring their scenes alive!
Arts Marketing & Audience Engagement - Wednesday 30th June
Working with our Marketing team, learn about audience development, creating engaging content for the theatre, and how to create and develop your own storytelling style for your marketing channels - social media, press releases, and more!
Playwriting/Writing a Musical - Thursday 1st July
Work alongside our Community Musical Playwright Jonny McClean as he covers the basics of writing in theatre, such as how to get started with your script, growing a concept, writing intention in lyrics, as well as get some information on our Community Musical Writing Group!
Musical Composition - Writing Music for a Musical - Friday 2nd July
Meet and work with our Community Musical Composer and Lyricist, Joel Hall, as they cover the basics of composition, such as matching music to meaning, getting started with your songs, creating music for characters, some tips and tricks for when you are composing for a musical specifically, as well as giving out some information on our Community Musical Composing Group!
These masterclasses are not compulsory for Your Community Musical participants, they are simply to go alongside the project to offer additional learning. These masterclasses are free but you must secure your place by booking a session using your Lichfield Garrick account.
These sessions will be delivered in person at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre should circumstances allow. Alternatively, they may be delivered online. We will be in touch with all participants closer to the date to confirm.
Participants must be 13+ and there is no upper age limit.
