Creative Burntwood
Creative Burntwood is our three-year outreach project designed to increase access to creative and cultural opportunities in Burntwood, an area historically under-invested in creatively despite its proximity to Lichfield. Funded by Arts Council England’s Place Partnerships Fund and delivered in partnership with Burntwood Town Council and Lichfield District Council, the project will deliver participatory activity, professional performances, early years provision and youth theatre development, shaped by ongoing community consultation and a local steering group. The programme will remain flexible to respond to local need, with a clear strategic aim of building long-term community capacity beyond the initial funding period.
The Role
As part of the programme of activities, additional support is required for activities such as Community Choir, workshops, or local events. We’re looking for a highly responsible, reliable, and calm person who is confident working on their own without a supervisor present.
Specific Duties:
Supporting the set up and clearing away of activities, such as materials, chairs/furniture, or refreshments;
Locking & unlocking the building with potential safekeeping of keys;
Running refreshment breaks which may include washing up of used crockery;
Providing pastoral support for participants and acting as a consistently friendly face;
Liaising with the Creative Burntwood Project Manager on any issues;
Welcoming facilitators and supporting with required resources;
Being First Aider for participants & facilitators;
Ensuring safety and welfare of all attendees, including safeguarding sessions involving children and vulnerable adults;
On occasion, assisting with promotional activities such as leaflet drops, handing out flyers, and answering questions on the project.
General
Alongside specific duties, you'll be expected to attend staff meeting/training where required, maintain knowledge of the project programme, adhere to Lichfield Garrick Theatre policies and procedures and contribute to effective Health & Safety management across the organisation.
Person Specification & Experience
Essential
- Some experience of supporting activities in a community, education or customer-facing activities;
- Comfortable working with a range of community groups in multiple venues;
- Positive and flexible attitude, excellent communication skills, empathy and patience;
- Able to work alone under own initiative;
- Commitment to accessibility, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable
- Experience of working with children
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults
- Experience of following Risk Assessments
- Safeguarding Training
- Experience of public promotion
- Experience of working with volunteers
- Knowledge of Burntwood and the wider Lichfield District
- Full UK Driving license and use of own car
Note, we are initially just looking for someone to cover the Community Choir on Monday evenings from 7pm-9.45pm approximately, but other support may be needed for activities throughout the project. The role is subject to a successful Enhanced DBS check and Right to Work checks.
