What is Creative Burntwood?

Creative Burntwood is an ambitious three-year project designed to increase local involvement in creative and cultural activities across Burntwood. It forms part of Lichfield Garrick Theatre’s wider community engagement programme.

Although Burntwood is close to the city of Lichfield and sits within the Lichfield District, it has often been overlooked when it comes to creative investment and opportunities.

Thanks to major funding from Arts Council England’s Place Partnerships Fund — and strong partnerships with Lichfield Garrick Theatre, Burntwood Town Council, and Lichfield District Council — we are now able to deliver a wide range of creative activities in the town over the next three years.

We are committed to keeping the programme flexible, so it can respond to the needs and ideas of local people. A community steering group will help shape this work.

Our long-term aim is to support and grow local skills, networks, and organisations, so that creative activity in Burntwood can continue beyond the end of this initial funded phase.

What is the Steering Group?

To make sure the project stays relevant to the community, we are forming a group of volunteers to give feedback and discuss ideas about the activities. The group will work the Project Manager and strategic partners to share their knowledge and experience of being part of the Burntwood community.

Who can be part of the Steering Group?

Anyone with a strong connection to or passion for the community in Burntwood can join the group. We are looking for representatives from local groups, and individuals who are interested in making a change and bringing more creative activities to the town. To keep the group focussed and make sure everyone is heard, there will be a limit to the number of people on the group.

What is the commitment?

We expect the steering group to meet once a month initially and then decide together when to meet less regularly – perhaps once a quarter or every other month. Meetings will be no longer than two hours.
