What’s your connection to / interest in the Garrick?

I was born and brought up locally, in Sutton Coldfield, where I still have friends and relatives. My father was Headmaster of a primary school local to Lichfield and with my encouragement led summer holiday drama projects for children at Lichfield Cathedral. It feels like coming home.

What’s your professional experience?

I have enjoyed a long career in the arts, including five years as the first Marketing Director at Birmingham Hippodrome; being Artistic Director of Theatre Station Blyth, Northumberland (now Headway Arts); Associate Director at The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham; and Founding Director of ArtReach, international consultants and festival producers. In the latter role, I was a Framework Consultant for Arts Council England.

I've also been Vice Chair of producing theatre, Curve, in Leicester and Chair of Theatre Royal Winchester and Hat Fair. He is a published writer of short stories, plays and a retrospective of the work of ArtReach.

What are you most excited about for the Garrick?

The Garrick is a quality venue, with the potential to play an even more significant role in the cultural and community life of Lichfield and surrounding area.
